Joseph McCalden

 

a marine private, arrived on the Alexander and was attached to Captain Shea's company. He settled at Norfolk Island in 1792, but sold his grant to D'Arcy Wentworth in 1793 joined the NSW Corps, and left for Sydney with a wife. He later returned to Norfolk Island, was given a new grant, and supplied the government with pork in 1796. By 1806, he had purchased 25 acres at the Hawkesbury, and was growing wheat, maize and potatoes. He married Margaret Quinn in Febryary 1811, and in 1828 was farming at Richmond NSW, where he later died aged 98 in May 1837.
